Artist Statement

I respond to the struggle between mankind and the manufactured object to create paintings that reflect the state of our culture and the age of technology.  In this day and age we are no more important than our increasingly complex inventions.  I show the battle between our organic state and the surroundings we have fabricated for ourselves with an intricate layering process of structurally correct charcoal drawings, sculptural, fleshy masses of oil paint inspired by the human form, fields of flat artificial color, and a geometric breakdown of the space.

My works are informed by radical growth of our culture, including trends in: architecture, electronics, design, fashion, graffiti, music and media, to develop an industrial, urban atmosphere within my paintings. My interpretations allow me to personally form an intellectual and therefore a visual connection between the human form and our creations.

The images are meant to be familiar to the viewer, forming connection using landscapes and figurative imagery, and in contrast the construction of synthetic shapes and plastic colors provides the space with a sense of disconnection from its original forms. 

My painting installations are meant to build a familiar setting representing the space between human interaction and synthetic culture, leaving the viewer in the center of the battle....
